Fresh appeal setback for murderer Bamber

Jeremy Bamber has lost the first stage of his latest legal move over his convictions for murdering five relatives in Essex more than 25 years ago.

A High Court judge in London has rejected his application for permission for a judicial review of a decision not to refer his case back to the Court of Appeal for the safety of his convictions to be looked at again.

The decision not to refer his case was made earlier this year by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), an independent body which investigates possible miscarriages of justice.

A spokeswoman for the Judicial Office confirmed that a single judge, considering the case on the papers, had turned down Bamber's judicial review application.

It is still open to Bamber to seek to renew his application before the full court.

Bamber, who is serving a whole life term for the 1985 killings, has always protested his innocence and claims his schizophrenic sister Sheila Caffell shot her family before turning the gun on herself in a remote Essex farmhouse.

When announcing its decision in April the CCRC said that despite a lengthy and complex investigation, it "has not identified any evidence or legal argument that it considers capable of raising a real possibility that the Court of Appeal would quash the convictions".

This is ridiculous. Bamber only went down for this because of his vindictive ex-girlfriend and family who stitched him up and the total incompetence of the Essex police. It is well reported that he was outside the house with the police when Caffell was still moving around inside. It has been proven that she could have shot herself with the rifle and the evidence was all tampered with. The sooner Bamber is out the better.

I have to say after watching the programme I have serious doubts he is guilty. I feel he has served his time now and I agree about the ex girlfriend being vindictive

When will this killer finally admit what he's done? Nothing that The Yellow Peril says has been 'proven' as he claims - if it had Bamber would be out.

No Reginald. At the time the incompetence of the police was unbelievable. Even police who worked on the case have since said it was diabolical. They don't want to admit they were wrong and put far too much weight on what the girlfriend and the family said. There's plenty of evidence to suggest that the sister did it and not a lot to suggest Bamber it. It was easier to save face and bang him up and that admit serious mistakes were made.

I was around at the time so I know what happened. No matter how incompetent the police were, appeal court after appeal court and judge after judge reviewing the evidence have found Bamber guilty and the evidence quite compelling. The man is deluded which you would have to be to kill your whole family.

Yes I was around at the time too and followed it all very closely. You would know then that it has been proven that Sheila could have killed herself with the rifle, that evidence (especially concerning the silencer) was tampered with and bodies moved by the police. Julie Mugford was bitter about being dumped and landed Bamber in it saying he had planned to kill his family and they decided to believe her). It has also been concluded that Sheila had something to eat between the deaths of her family and her own death - a bit strange don't you think? People in high places have it in their own interests for total incompetence not to come out now - they are all protecting themselves.

Deluded as I say. Now the whole world's in conspiracy.

Jeremy Bamber may have been many things (I know a lot of people who knew him personally) but deluded wasn't one of them. Reginald - read the facts and you will see that he could not have committed the murders. He has even passed a lie detector test.
