Wivenhoe community centre safe say county council

THERE are no plans to close down a community centre in Wivenhoe say council bosses, despite fears from residents.

Reports at a Wivenhoe Town Council meeting earlier this week suggested the Children’s Support Services Centre in Phillip Road would close by Christmas.

Town councillors agreed to propose the centre as a possible home for a new medical centre in Wivenhoe after plans by health chiefs to site one next to the fire station fell through and concerns raised about a possible alternative location in the Cook’s Shipyard development.

But Essex County Council said it currently had no proposals to dispose of the site.
