Gardeners fear new eyesore after pub closure

GARDENING gurus have called for tender loving care to be given to their village after its only pub closed down.
Retired volunteers from Elmstead In Bloom said the boarded up King’s Arms pub is the second eyesore within a few yards along its main road.
The pub shut suddenly last month for unknown reasons.
The front of the former Post Office is also covered in scaffolding and has been left untouched since a fire badly damaged the building five years ago.
The Post Office now operates from Old Forge Court.
Sid Wright, chairman of Elmstead in Bloom, said: “We certainly don’t need these situations - the Post Office being left in such a state and we have now lost the public house.
“It is a nice village and we seem to have had a lot of new families. We keep it as nice as we can with what we do and we would like to think the authorities would do their bit and try and put things to rights so we don’t have these eyesores.”

Well perhaps if the locals had made better use of their local post office and pub then both businesses might still exist. A few more important things to worry about than hanging baskets in my view.

Five years on and the Post Office has not been rebuilt / restored..... that was because the owners did not have insurance for the building, which happened to be listed.

Refreshing to note the residents of Elmstead actually take pride in the appearence of their village.

Driving through, one can behold the beautiful sight of a village in bloom,
especially in summer.

Regardless of (rhyme or reason), the locals are right to be concearned about the boarded-up pub and post office becoming an eyesore.

Maybe some of the unsympathic
posters above, are the same people who defame Colchesters housing estates for being dull and dowdy.
