Second takeaway is one too many for Malcolm

A SECOND takeaway in a shopping parade has sparked a row between residents and Colchester Council.

On Thursday, councillors gave permission to convert Celebrations, in St Christopher Road, into a fast-food takeaway.

But residents say an existing takeaway, Fish ‘n’ Chick’n, is already causing problems and a second outlet will only make matters worse.

“It is likely this will add to the problems we already have and I don’t think councillors took our views into account when making the decision,” said Malcolm Cross, 67, of St Clement Road, who has lived in St John’s for 35 years.

“In the summer, it is already really bad with smells that we can’t open our doors or windows as the fish and chips smell just goes straight in."

In this age of falling values and unsightly run-down estates, it's so refreshing to know the residents of Elmstead actually take great pride in their village.

It's always a delight when driving through Beautiful Elmstead in bloom to behold the flowery sights.

One can understand the villagers concearn about the pub and post office becoming a blight on the landscape, (regardless of why or how)

Maybe some of those unsympathic posters on here, are the same posters who defame colchesters housing estates for being dowdy..
