Olympic swimmer opens Colchester health centre

OLYMPIC gold medallist Becky Adlington officially opened a new Colchester health centre on Tuesday.

The swimmer, who added two bronzes to her collection this summer at London 2012, met with children at the St Aubyn Centre, on Boxted Road.

The facility helps children aged 11 to 18 with severe and complicated mental health problems.

Strange headline calling this facility a Health Centre. Is it that this headline portrays a much softer and less sensitive and politically correct headline than using its correct title to describe this facility?

It isn't a Health Centre but as the report goes on to say the facility caters for teenagers with severe and complicated mental health issues.

Not sure I follow you there Say It..?

If it's not a health centre, but cares for people with mental health issues, what is it?

It's a "secure residential home" and it specifically caters for mentally disturbed teenagers who, for various reasons, cannot live in the community.

Mental health is just as much of a health issue as is a stroke or a heart attack or cancer. Therefore of course this is a health centre.
.
In another local on-line newspaper, we read as follows:
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms Adlington said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be here. I wish there was a facility like this my sister could have gone to when she was a teenager."
.
If it's good enough to impress Rebecca Adlington, it is something for us all to be proud of.

Fully appreciate the St Aubyn Centre deals with mental health issues which are just as important as any other medical condition.

The point I made was more about the headline description given to the centre.

Lets hope the residents, because with mental health you cannot call them patients any more, are soon better and are free to return to good health away from a locked, secure environment.
