In today's Gazette: An Essex University fresher who downed a bottle of rum in 15 minutes died after falling down a flight of stairs.
Timothy Jarvis, 18, was just days into his maths degree when he suffered massive head injuries in the fall at South Court halls of residence. He was taken to Queen's Hospital in Romford where he died the next day.
* A couple hired a builder to smash holes in the walls of their home in a desperate search for a phantom bleeping sound. After spending money on an electrician and a builder, they eventually found a forgotten smoke alarm in a chest of drawers.
* A school where burglars broke in three times and stole laptops has got five of the computers back - after special tracking software caught the crooks who took them.
* Market traders have been forced to move to new pitches in Colchester town centre after Colchester Council lost a four year legal dispute.
The traders were operating on land which came under the remit of Lion Walk shopping centre and, as such, we not allowed to be there.
