Colchester Free Festival founder steps down
5:29pm Tuesday 9th October 2012 in News
THE founder of the reformed Colchester Free Festival has announced he is stepping down from his role as organiser.
Ben Howard’s relaunch of the Castle Park spectacular in August 2010 featured a series of stages with performances by local bands, a children’s area and more.
Two successful follow-ups have established the festival as a major music and arts event in Colchester’s calendar celebrating what the town has to offer.
This week, Mr Howard told fellow members of the festival team he was proud of the last three festivals, but felt it was time he would move on.

Perhaps the organisation of this festival should be handed over to the Firstsite organisation in the Golden shed. It could be a way that they counter the widely held belief that they squander public funds and deliver very little to the community. They would need to be advised to stick to music as opposed to 'art' installations though.
Well done to Ben Howard and everyone else who has made 3 very successful events happen, I hope that it is able to continue pretty much as it was.
