Colchester school overhaul - new bid

Another school has expressed an interest in expanding to provide more secondary school places in Colchester.

Figures predict there will be a shortfall of 400 places in the town by 2022 and Essex County Council has now launched a consultation on devising a plan to tackle the issue.

The Gilberd is set to expand to take an extra 30 students a year and Stanway School has expressed an interest on expanding on to the Alderman Blaxill School site in 2017. That school will close in 2014.

Philip Morant School and College has also expressed an interest in expanding on to the site or sponsoring a new school there.
