Fresh consultation over Tiptree Jam Factory plans
8:00pm Wednesday 3rd October 2012 in News
A FRESH consultation will be launched next week over plans to build a new jam factory and nearly 250 homes in Tiptree.
A government inspector last month spent two days listening to evidence about whether he should agree, in principle, to allow Wilkin & Sons to partly fund a £25 million factory by selling some of its land to housing developers.
The jam-makers and Colchester Council have drawn up the Tiptree Jam Factory local plan, which proposes building the new factory on land south of its current base on Factory Hill.
The current factory site and fields nearby would be turned into nearly 250 homes if inspector David Vickery decides it is sound and planning permission is subsequently granted.
Over the last year, two public consultations have found the majority of Tiptree residents favour allowing the long-established jam-makers to build the homes, as it will enable them to stay in the village.
The new consultation, which starts on Monday, asks for comments on a series of proposed changes made to the original plan submitted to the inspector.
The alterations are intended to address concerns raised by the inspector and other interested parties.
