500 hospital workers given flu jab

MORE than 500 hospital workers got their jabs on the first day of an NHS staff flu vaccination campaign.

A total of 472 frontline staff, including doctors, nurses, porters and housekeepers, were given the injection on Monday along with 30 workers employed at Clacton Hospital.

Kate Farrelly, from the trust which runs the hospitals, said: “If we reduce the chances of staff contracting flu, we can really drive down the possibility of passing it on to patients.”

Every year in the UK, flu kills hundreds of people that are elderly, very young or weakened by illness.
