Council guidelines to tackle air pollution
9:30am Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in News
DEVELOPMENTS proposed for areas with poor air quality will have to tackle environmental issues to get the green light from councillors.
Colchester Council has adopted new guidance which will be a material planning consideration for any developments in air quality management areas (AQMAs).
Plans must not make air quality worse in these areas and where possible seek to improve it.
Ways to offset air pollution caused by new developments could include a contribution to the council’s Air Quality Action Plan, new or improved traffic management measures or road infrastructure, improved public transport, pedestrian and cycle routes, travel plans or secure cycle parking.

Watch the most polluted road in Colchester, Brook Street, get even more pollution when traffic congestion increases after the idiots close the High Street to private and delivery vehicles. The High Street will remain open for the polluting buses while the rest of us either sit in traffic or we go shopping in Ipswich or Chelmsford and use their excellent park and ride facilities.
