Fast broadband will come to Colchester town centre in 2013

FAST broadband will come to Colchester town centre next year, it has been pledged.

In March, Colchester Council’s cabinet agreed to progress a deal with Cheshire-based ITS Technologies to upgrade its CCTV network to provide faster internet speeds.

The faster broadband would have allowed traders to send special offers and information to shoppers using smartphones in the town centre.

Six months on, the work has yet to materialise, leading to rumours the deal had fallen through.

But Roy Shelton, group chief commercial officer of ITS, insisted that was not the case.

He said: ”We’re working with the council to try and see it through to closure as soon as possible.

And by 2013 both virgin media and BT will have a decent footprint in Colchester.

So the payback for the council is the assumption rather than choose a household name businesses will opt for a council delivered solution, hooking into their fibre ring.

Hmmm.

Be much more realistic if the council just upgraded their CCTV ring and forgot about the potential to provision services on top.

The Colchester exchange already has FTTC which can provide speeds up to 80mbps. Unsure why this CCTV 'upgrade' is needed.

How does the CCTV affect the broadband speed? I live in the town centre and get 80mbps.

BTW SamEssex it's their , as it belongs to them, and it's not over there .
