Health authorities are investigating water sources in Brightlingsea after a young boy contracted a parasite making him ill.

Benjamin Laker, aged three, was diagnosed with cryptosporidiosis by his doctor after displaying diarrhoea-type symptoms.

Classified as a notifiable disease, caused by the parasite Cryptosporidium, all recorded cases must be referred to the Health Protection Agency (HPA) for investigation.

Mr Laker, Benjamin’s father, said he did not want to unduly worry people but wanted to make other people aware of the condition in case there had been a wider outbreak.
