WATER users in Brightlingsea fear someone will die if jet ski users do not follow the rules of the waves.

Sailing club leaders, councillors, police and the harbour commission have joined forces to urge everyone on the water to be conscious of others.

Within the harbour there is a four knot speed limit, while an eight knot limit applies within 200 metres of a beach.

But regulars on the water say a significant minority of jet skiers are flouting the law and putting lives at risk.

jet skiers are like a plague,
there ever increasing, ever more anti social, ever more ignoring the rules of the water all along our coastline of tendring.
surley its not hard to ensure legislation can be applied to all waterbourne craft, so fines can be issued while not actually captured on the spot, just the same as vehicle drivers on the roads.
get the skiers registered and forced to carry registration numbers, insurance, and basic waterway instruction.
as a coastal dweller, each year we see more modern jetskis going faster each year.
from a mechanicle point of view they are now fabulous machines, but there highly tuned motors have got so loud, the faster they get, the more there engine noises drown out everything else.
Like all coastal areas, we have weekenders who jetski just offshore, while swimmers have to dodge the very high speed craft.
Its illegal, dangerous, and stupid.
but do the jetskiers actually realise the dangers they achieve?
not while they race each other they dont.
High speed waterbourne killers at worst,
plain Ignorant at best!
