MORE than 1,000 nature lovers braved the wind and the rain to celebrate the 25th birthday of Colchester’s High Woods Country Park.

The Big Birthday Bash marked 25 years since the Countryside Commission designated the land as a Country Park and provided grants to Colchester Council to conserve it in 1987.

Around 1,125 people enjoyed apple related activities in the community gardens, cycle and segway demonstrations, an obstacle course, pond dipping and meeting Suffolk Punch horses.

They could also watch a dog agility show, a birds of prey demonstration, a puppet show, demonstrations by Colchester Morris Men and a history re-enactment group.

Youngsters could learn craft skills and enjoy a storyteller puppet show, while a graffiti artist came up with work marking the anniversary that will go on display.
