Churches to help boost rural broadband
CHURCHES are joining the fight to bring high-speed internet to rural parts of Essex.
Broadband aerials could be installed on village churches to boost internet signal in areas not connected to the cable network.
The Church of England is piloting the scheme with some of its buildings, including St Peter ad Vincula Church in Coggeshall.
If successful the scheme could be rolled out to other churches.
A spokesperson for Chelmsford Diocese, the Church of England authority in Essex, said: “Chelmsford Diocese is working with some pioneer churches to help enable better broadband access to rural areas.
“We think broadband access in rural communities is extremely important and hope that churches have a role to play to facilitate this in the communities that they serve. We are currently looking at ways to make this happen.”
