Two arrested following stabbings in Clacton town centre (From Essex County Standard)

We sat watching the police raid a house and arrest someone. 5 Police cars, one of which was a dog unit and at least one looked like an armed response car. One of the officers definitely had a gun on her right hip.

As far as I am concerned it is about time that sentencing was made much heavier. If you are caught carrying a knife, you should be arrested and charged with a new offence of "going equipped to murder". This should carry a minimum sentence of 15 years without parole.

Yet how do our government deal with the rapid rise of this and other violent crimes....... cut Police funds and force them to lay off Police Officers. We have already seen the Police horses taken away from Essex and next it will be what little officers we have on the streets.

Its heading for mob rule at this rate and I want a ticket out of this hell hole of a country.

Tony is right Clacton has become a dumping ground for all the rubbish from other areas that other councils don’t want, drugs thieves criminals, I read in the gazette that there were 12 burglaries in 7 days, that never used to happen as often as that the knife crimes this year, this big new estate is a nightmare, Clacton has changed beyond recognition no matter what our council do with air shows carnivals to try and bring in tourists, it will not work
Clacton unfortunately for us locals is finished as a sea side resort and a peaceful town
You only have to walk around the town centre to see the scum that have now taken over

i agree tony that is it becoming very much like London and it not the lovely calm seaside resort we all once thought, and i'm ashamed to live here now but i'm sorry your comment about it all escalating due to the fulfillment of the estates is totally wrong!!! the estates are not used for ex Londoners like many people think nor do the house ex cons and such, the assumption that the people who commit these crimes are coming from the estates is just snobby and pompous.

I am amazed by the ignorance of this comment. I moved here 15 years ago from just outside London, most of my family still live in London - nobody in my family has stabbed anybody or been in prison!!! Maybe people should look a little closer to home for the problem i.e. lack of education, kids having kids and too many people qualifying for benefits (mainly being "on the sick")because they cannot be bothered to look for a job, then maybe Clacton could become a better place if people had a little more pride in themselves and the area they live !!!

Oh please... I moved here years ago from just outside of London. I moved because there was no way I was raising a child there and I got fed up with a self inflicted curfew for fear of being out after dark. If London is that great and that safe then why do so many people want to leave it ?

I have not said in any way that London is safe, I am simply pointing out that not everybody who commits a crime in Clacton came from London, I am sure "locals" are capable of also comitting crimes !!!

Yes you are right. But the truth is that Clacton is becoming a dumping ground for some very nasty stupid idiots. The truth is that a large amount of them are from London. Unfortunately these people like to brag about being from "Lundun" and how hard they are !!.

It is the second time in two weeks that Police have attended the same address as they did tonight. The previous time was due to a small group of girls beating hell out of another girl. The property concerned is a halfway house for young couples who have young babies and no where else to live. One thing we do know is that a number of the people that have been at that property have stated their roots being from London.

Not just Clacton. Harwich is also being filled with the lowlifes that London does not want. You can see them every day.

where ever these people are from don't really matter im a clacton bird but the only one, every generation before me are eastenders and not one of them have been arrested for anything. here in clacton its 9 times outta 10 drug related which is sad that it causes so much violence but the fact of the matter is its true. we cant judge people because of where they are from because half of my family own there homes in nice areas and the other half live in council estates but we are all the same. i would never live in london ever but my gay nephew feels more safer living up there than he did here so we are all different!! well i hope the people involved get whats deserved.

It was very frightening for the people in Clacton on Thursday afternoon as the fight took place.Many children and parents were passing.In fact I find you have to be alert walking around the town at 4 to 5 pm-lots of people staggering around.Some arguing,others shouting. Try visiting the Clacton Post Office at this time.It would be great to see a few police officers on foot.(Not just 10 Police cars arriving in convoy!)While waiting for a bus outside HSBC I have witnessed quite a few minor incidents that have distressed people nearby.Clacton is definitely changing!

London over spill doesn't help but spare me the "used to be a nice town" rubbish Clacton has always been a hole it's just getting worse now as generations of no hopers sprogs themselves produce more feckless off spring of their own. Drugs don't help but that's down to the police there are only a few groups that are responsible for peddling crack and heroin around the town and the police know exactly who they are but choose to do nothing.

What interesting reading. It turns out that all three arrested were from Clacton and you would think that men in their forties would be grown up and not want to go around stabbing people. If we good people of Clacton all stick together the town would become a better place. Unfortunately, evil exists in all towns and cities and in every country in the world. The Police are only as good as the politicians allow them to be and each one of them takes orders from someone above them. We need to stand united and voice ourselves as we are fully aware that anyone sent down probably gets given more than us who work our butts off everyday. The law needs changing don't you think?

Clacton was a nice town, no idea how long you have lived here but I can assure you it was not always a hole, I have been here since the 60s, the town has changed in the last 2 years, and the large estates are being occupied by Haringey and hackney ex tenants along with jaywick brightlingsea and harwich, I have nothing against people settling in the town wherever they are from, it’s the latest influx, on top off that foreigners look in lidls there are a lot more of them here than one thinks yes it is dangerous in town around 3 pm too 5pm as the benefits people run out of money in the moon and starfish drinking cheep plonk and spill on to the street
Shut it at 2pm, stop the drunks in pier avenue and the beach shelters drinking all day cans off special, beggars outside the pound shop
The whole town looks disgraceful
One other thing I thought we paid for cctv in pier avenue, station road and the high
Street over £500k, yet they are never on
24 hour drinking introduced by the government has a lot to do with it

It is a very easy mistake to lable all and sundry because they come from 'outof town' Not always the case. I have lived here for over 30yrs and watched the slide.
Licensing laws need rethinking, I aggree with other comments, do we need 24hr drinking?.
Knive crime, will never be reduced without serious penalties, 'just for carrying should be a fixed penalty, with no 'mitigating circumstances'.
Displaying and use of a knive, even bigger fixed penalties, no excuses.
The jails are curently full to capacity now, therefore the goverment will not impliment these penalties, the jails would just burst under the strain.
In other countries they put excessive no's of prisoner's into tents within the grounds of the jail, to serve their sentence......oops did some one say yuman rites. !!!

going into town is like dodge the drunk nowadays day or night.I live in Jaywick and feel safer walking about any time of day or night here despite the bad reports of our village.I ventured in town a few wks ago for a nite out and felt so uncomfortable getting from pier ave to the sea front due to the intimidating drunks in all the doorways with tinny's that I asked someone I recognised to walk with me .I thought there was a ban on drinking in the streets in clacton so why is it not acted on ?!!!!!!!!........ If that was addressed it would resolve so many other problems .!!!!

all points raised should have been handled by the neighbourhood policing team at least, if not pressure by towns neighbourhood watch to ensure legal actions regarding drunks, drink, and general bad behaviour is dealt with, not turned a blind eye too!

with the soon opening of the old verses nightclub with its 2-30 & 3-30 AM closing times, where will policing be then, if its not there now!

I`m afraid we get long established locals still believing in the "old days"
while forgetting there ages have doubled.

London is just a 60 minuet drive away, even quicker by train I am told.
Do the "locals" think either Clacton has a Butlin`esk ring of steel to it still,
or do they not see progression has moved on, bringing with it fresh faces to replace those once old and entrenched faces that have died through old age!
Clacton no longer has Butlins, its donkeys on the beach, its regular boat rides from the beach and pier.

What Clacton does have is a continuois flow of people through regular migration,along with wind turbines & new technoligies.
Old Clacton has long gone,
not through them nasty old - blame them for everything - Londoners,
but east europeans, and fellow citizens from ALL of the UK.

Lets just wait and find out where those that are charged with the crime come from. They may be the off-spring of Clactonians who let their kids run riot whilst they sat in the pubs and clubs. Unfortunately the police are not given the powers that they should have due to SUCCESSIVE governments being more pro the guilty party than the victim. The kids today know they can get away with things without being caught or if they are they just get a slapped wrist. So over a period of time the kids keep pushing the boundaries until before they know it they are stood there on a street armed.

As I said earlier, they need to restructure the law to accommodate the rise in these types of crime. If you are caught in public with a knife or a gun you should be charged with an offence of " Going equipped to murder". The sentence should be severe, a very long prison sentence without parole.

If the prisons are overcrowded, build more. Instead of dumb wind farms the government should have people build offshore prisons so that there is no chance of escape as well. For god sake our government have sold off our huge old aircraft carriers which could have been easily converted for such use.

I moved to Clacton from London in 1984 and even then you had crime ridden estates like the Langham Drive area and Knox road etc.....and they were and still are filled with local scumbags.

I have visited Clacton regually since I was very - very young.
I had family moved here in the low 1980`s when Butlins was a destination, not just a residents place of abode, that was longer ago in years than ages of "some" who moan here.
I had a holiday home here in the mid 1990`s,
and retired here nearly 10 years ago.

found some facts about population age groups for essex.

Essex has a different population structure to that of England as a whole; it has a similar proportion of children,
but more older-aged people.
There are fewer 15-34 year olds than in England, which may reflect the movement of this portion of the population to other areas.
The 34-44 age group is slightly smaller than in England, and all older age groups are larger in Essex (see figure 1.4).

It's interesting that the 8 am news this morning on Dream radio didn't mention the stabbings in Clacton at all!There was comments in local papers that the stabbings were not 'life-threatening'! No doubt the police don't want to admit things are getting out of hand.They are still stabbings in a busy street in Clacton witnessed by many. Still drunks/druggies wandering the streets in the afternoon-let alone the evening. No police around on foot or car unless there is a lion around!Still boy racers whizzing around.PCSO's trying to get them on bikes! Sea front shelters being used as drinking dens.The police that know where the druggies are! Kids being anti-social-family feuds -Londoners and locals-no jobs-it's all getting desperate-a cauldron bubbling over. There's solutions here. However do we all do as much as we can?

Our children are first,i see many parents who let kids scream and swear,kick balls at windows,smoke,go out alone at under ten years old. Abuse to others and threatening behaviour is ignored. We can't be that ignorant. So if we ALL who profess to be bothered actually ensure discipline exists at home that is a start.

Secondly we come to areas where civil liberties are an issue. Mandatory contraception until the age of 21. It is possible and would eliminate teen pregnancies and chance pregnancies that prohibit employment. In addition it would give a population drop which would have vast benefits in longer term an not just locally but nationally.

Then thirdly, legalise drugs. Not the use in public but make it legal register sellers, clean the drugs as best as science can,permit the use in select places but with the laws that carry harsh penalty for any crime where the perpertrator is on drugs ie an abh/gbh charge gets ten years added if a member is on drugs too. But eliminating illegallity of supply an export/import means more employed safer drugs removing criminality of dealing,removing warring gangs over "patches" as each district has a regulated seller or two that could easily with seized drugs an better made drugs undercut any unregulated dealer an who would go to a dealer peddling filth when they can go to a clean safer version thats cheaper. with the tax we could invest in getting people off drugs invest in more activities for kids an more cops an teachers.

And of course a 24/7 police patrol on the streets. If bin men can get up at 6 or firemen attend a fire at 3am or a postman deliver my mail at 12 in the afternoon, why cant bobbies be on the beat round the clock. Guaranteed if there wasa visible prescence an peple know that at any time a foot patrol may appear and that they are backed up by a roving car patrol never too far away it would wipe out the hordes of youths that intimidate people. Bringing people into town an back to the streets after dark.

Community programs that get streets to know each other an the neighbours.

And of course harsh sentences,stop an searches on cars on people, would find stolen goods/cars/weapons
Real sentencing would discourage. Intead of a drink driver getting 6 or so points an a fine they get 10 years prison followed by a lifetime driving ban. Thats harsh but after a few people got done guarantee others would just say ok ill go stne cold sober or i will get a taxi. Same as carrying a knife, get 15 years just for carrying an maybe we go back to a punch up an maybe eventually eradicate even that but at the least we halve or more the deaths we are seeing.
No none of the above is a quick or easy solution an it needs people to demand it insist on it vote OUT council after council government after government until they get what they ask for. But do it all an i would put money that crime would be more than halved. Sadly it doesnt bring in money eradicating crime but keeping crime where u can fine an lightly punish does so without the peoples will behind it nothing will happen until anarchy reigns on the streets an then it will be too late
