Police spy on Greenstead career criminals

A WEEK long surveillance operation in Greenstead has been hailed a success.

Operation Livewire was designed to target repeat offenders who terrorise residents and make their lives a misery.

It began with a secret surveillance team following rogue criminals trying to catch them in the act and continued with uniformed officers trying to reduce the level of crime and anti-social behaviour on the estate.

Inspector Adrian Dearsley, who is in charge of neighbourhood policing in Greenstead, said: “It was about targeting those on the estate who are known criminals and it was successful.

“There were no direct arrests as a result because it was focused on preventing crime taking place during that period.”

Insp Dearsley was pleased the criminals knew they were there and they were being watched and the community also appreciated the extra policing presence.

He added: “We had a very positive reaction from the community and it is something we will be repeating in the future.”
