Road layout criticised my MP and councillor
7:30pm Thursday 13th September 2012 in News
ROAD markings outside a new estate have been described as a recipe for disaster.
The layout, near the development of the former Hyderabad barracks, in Mersea Road, Colchester, has been criticised as motorists have to switch lanes after a junction.
Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell , a former chairman of the All-Party Road Safety Group, has witnessed cars using the wrong lane.
Sir Bob said: “The lane switching is confusing.”
Sir Bob and Lib Dem borough and county councillor Lyn Barton are calling on the highways department to review the lane markings.
Mrs Barton said: “The road markings on this junction are totally inappropriate and something needs to be done.”
An Essex County Council spokesperson said an engineer would conduct an inspection this week.
