Pensioner disqualified from driving after death crash

AN ELDERLY man, who caused the death of a former Colchester United youth player, has been disqualified from driving.

Donald Lambert, 83, drove into motorcyclist Dean Sadler on the Ardleigh Crown roundabout on April 1, Colchester Magistrates' Court heard Tuesday.

Mr Sadler, who joined the U’s when he was 16 for two years, fell from his bike and suffered fatal injuries following the crash.

Lambert, of Mayes Lane, Ramsey, admitted causing death by careless driving.

District Judge John Wollard sentenced Lambert to 100 hours of unpaid work, disqualified him from driving for 18 months and told him to pay £85 costs.

Let's hope he never gets to drive again. A ridiculously lenient sentence, he should have been banned for life!

i would think that getting behind the wheel is the last thing he will want to do.what ever the circumstances of the tragedy.

It is appalling of the magistrate not to ban this OAP from driving for the rest of his life.

He may well live to be 100 and take a few more lives before he goes.

Disgusting.

think you will find the driver will need to undergo a lengthy driving test again before he is allowed to drive.
