IN TODAY'S GAZETTE: THE family of murdered schoolboy Jay Whiston have paid tribute to him.

Jay's father Stafford described the 17-year-old as his hero and said he was clever and gifted and with his whole life ahead of him.

* Colchester MP Sir Bob Russell will not face action even though a Parliamentary inquiry found he breached expenses rules for six years.

Sir Bob unwittingly breached the rules by holding shares in a company which owned Magdalen Hall  which was sub-let for his constituency office. MPs on the Commons' standards committee said he made no financial gain.

* Farmer Howard Dennis has told how he was confronted with a wall of fire as the blaze ripped across 123 acres of his fields.

* A brave mum fought off a man who tried to rob her at knifepoint in Colchester's Castle Park.
