RESIDENTS on a sleepy Colchester street spoke of their shock after a teenager was stabbed to death yards from their doorstep.

Jay Whiston, 17, of Aster Close, Clacton, was stabbed in the stomach at a house party in Marlowe Way, Colchester, at 10pm last night.

Paramedics and police fought to save his life at the scene before rushing him to Colchester General Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

Sue Smith, who has lived in Marlowe Way for 16 years, said everyone was in a state of shock.

She said: “I’m shocked to think something like this could happen.

“I can’t remember the last time police were called here.

“It’s so sad that a young life has been lost.”

Pamela Gibson, a retired deputy headmistress, said: “It’s shocking, there has never been any trouble or violence here before."
