No complaints with Colchester Council

NO pay-outs were made by Colchester Council following complaints to the Local Government Ombudsman in the past year.

A total of 28 enquiries were made to the service between April 1 2011 and March 31 this year, down from 54 the previous year. Of these only 11 were investigated, with one settlement made.

The settlement involved council action but no financial pay-out.

In six cases the council was found to have done nothing wrong, while the remaining four were outside the ombudsman’s remit.

The ombudsman deals with complaints made about councils, but gives local authorities the opportunity to respond first. It only steps in and investigates if the council response is not deemed good enough by the person complaining.
