A GYM had to be evacuated after a fire broke out at the fitness complex.
 

Firefighters were called to Fitness First, off Petrolea Close, Colchester, at about 1.15pm yesterday.

Smoke was coming out of the ducting vents in the first floor studio.
 

The system was isolated and crews left the gym in the hands of the manager after about an hour.
 

A spokesman for Fitness First said: “Fitness First can confirm that the Colchester gym was closed following a small fire for about two hours.
 

“The gym has now reopened following safety inspections and all classes are running as usual.
 

“Damage to the gym was very minimal and evacuation of the gym was carried out quickly and efficiently.
 

“Fitness First Colchester would like to thank all members and staff for their co-operation on the day.”
