A SHOP owner has followed her life-long passion by opening a cafe.

Dawn Wicks, co-owner of two party shops in Colchester, has branched out into selling food at a new cafe in Queen Elizabeth Way.

Cafe Ten was officially opened yesterday at a ceremony with ward councillors, local businesses and regular customers.

The Celebrations and Celebrations and Creations owner already offered buffets as part of the party service, and saw the cafe as a great way for customers to try before they buy.

Dawn said: “It is very exciting to be opening this cafe.

“When it came up I thought it was ideal, and it gives people a chance to sample the food before they order for 100 people.

“Running a cafe is something I have wanted to do since I was a little girl, but somehow I ended up in events.”

The cafe sells breakfasts, sandwiches and wraps, and a different hot lunchtime meal each day as well usual fare such as jacket potatoes and salads.

Open from 7am until 4pm Monday to Saturday it is already proving popular with nearby residents.

Dawn said: “People from other shops in the parade have been very helpful in setting up too, as it benefits everyone. If people come for food they may stay and shop too.”
