VILLAGE GETS NEW COUNCIL

A NEW parish council has been elected for Dedham.

The village’s parish council was ruled to be defunct after it was discovered none of the parish councillors had filled out their acceptance forms correctly.

By law, each of the nine councillors elected in May were required by law to sign a declaration of acceptance of office, either before or at the first meeting of the council.

But none of the forms were completed and the council was declared illegal.

Now another election has been held - with 19 candidates standing for nine seats.

A total of 1,632 ballot papers were issued to villagers and nearly 40 per cent of the village turned out to vote at the Assembly Rooms.

The nine candidates who were elected were: Sheila Beeton, Christopher Clark, Jonathan Flack, Peter Gibbins, Jane Hughes, Anthony Regan, Kevin Taylor, Susan Vinter and Stephen White.
