Husband avoids immediate jail sentence after killing wife in car crash
3:10pm Friday 31st August 2012 in News
A HUSBAND has walked free from court for killing his wife in an A12 accident.
Simon Aylott slammed into the back of a lorry on the way back from a family holiday, injuring all five people in his car and causing the death of his wife Rachel.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard on Friday the “only possible reason” for the accident was that he fell asleep at the wheel.
Rachel Aylott, 38, was sitting in the middle of the back seat when the accident took place at around 10am on March 30 last year.
She suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Everyone else in the car - all family members - suffered injuries and are still suffering the effects of the tragedy.
Aylott, 34, of Bromley Road, Frating admitted causing death by careless driving and was jailed for nine months, suspended for two years.
He was also given two years' supervision, banned from driving for two years, and told to take an extended driving test.

The right decision for a Court for once but may the driver suffer for what he has done! He knew he was tired but thought he could fight it, wrong! Too many people I know or know of, have had accidents or died as a result of driving whilst tired, when will people learn? Huh? I'm a professional driver and pride myself of either pulling over when that fateful feeling comes on, or I book the night off work if I haven't got enough sleep during the day. YOU CANNOT FIGHT IT, STOP KILLING PEOPLE! How about the truck he hit... How was the driver? Oh no mention of him/her. People who think they're better than everyone else should also foot the bill for the recovery & clear up operation to make them think twice next time.
