Long-awaited car park finally opens
3:08pm Friday 31st August 2012 in News By Will Lodge

A long-awaited car park in Colchester was opened today.
The 85-space car park to the north of Napier Road was opened today, while a second 35-space car park to the south is due to open by the end of the year.
The sites were funded as part of a cash agreement reached for development on the garrison.
The car park was due to open in Easter 2011 but was delayed because of a row over a tree and hedge being removed and not replaced during construction.
Martin Hunt , councillor responsible for street services at Colchester Council , said: "I’m thrilled it is open at last. It is an easy walk into town and useful for local residents. It is a great place for a car park."
Drivers can park for up to two hours for £1, up to four hours for £1.50 and longer for £2.50, while overnight parking between 6pm and 6am is 50p. A yearly season ticket is £500.
