Ten-year-old filmmaker causes internet stir

A FILMMAKING prodigy who taught himself animation aged six has had more than 44,000 hits on Youtube.

Leon Nash, 10, spends hours at his computer - but unlike other children his age he is not just playing computer games.

The talented youngster makes stop-motion films using Lego characters and movie-making software.

He posts the videos on his YouTube , Facebook site and his own website - and has attracted followers from all around the world.

His family said he became a computer whizz as a toddler and began making movies at the age of six.

Leon, who lives in Hardy’s Green, Birch, said he wants to direct action movies and develop his own computer games when he grows up.

He added: “My favourite films are action ones, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, and I would like to one day make films like that."

Leon is currently juggling his hobby whilst studying for his 11+ exams and hopes to get into Colchester Royal Grammar School.

He uses his Lego set to create plots, taking hundreds of still photographs and pain-stakingly moving each character one step at a time.

Leon then stitches the images together into a moving film using software he taught himself how to use.

CITIZEN i am Leon's mum, ive just had to put my son off reading your comment. How dare you put something so cruel. Leon has spent the last 2 years building up his knowledge and confidence and being the modest boy he is he would never have put himself forward. So what you are saying is that ONLY! 29,000 OF THE 44,000 are just from online gaming, do you know what effort he puts into his tutorials, he speaks to people all over the world on his microphone and guides other children through the gaming. He has spent hrs upon hrs taking still of Lego men he builds up and moves and adds music to. Leon might not be a genius yet but one day he might. How can a adult like yourself slag down a young child when there are kids out there who swear, drink, take drugs etc when leon has a bright future in front of him. People like you discust me and ive a good mind to report what you have put before my son reads it.

Bwannasinpajammas .... THANKYOU FOR YOUR KIND COMMENT, Leon has just read it and it has made his day, unlike the one underneath.

Obviously there are some people on here who don't know how to conduct themselves when there is a 10 year old boys confidence at risk. If it's boring you Feisty cbc then don't read it. And Citizen139 could you do that when you were 10, because I couldn't or even now. Pin4apple you should be proud and I am sure you are. Like you say, it's better than him out drinking alcohol underage or causing fights or doing graffiti. It's children like this who will end up doing our country proud. Well Done Leon, keep it up.

I think this Lad has made a terrific animated video, his future must be assured with a media organisation, well done Leon, don't let the Internet louts worry you, they are jealous of your skills and have nothing better to do.

Actually yes it did bore me. Hence my comment that was removed. Regarding Citizen139 comment, (whom I've always found level headed)if the mother can't handle constructive criticism then maybe she shouldn't put her child in front of the media or on youtube.

Feisty CBC, if he finds he is bored should browse elsewhere, rather than make such unfair remarks, I guess he was never a child !!

I enjoyed the Lego videos, but I do hope this story stressing that Leon is only 10 doesn't cause him any issues, as you have to be 13 to sign up for YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc. If this story reaches the attention of any of those sites they will be obliged to suspend his accounts.

Can't believe my comment got deleted, all I said was that 29K of the 44K had nothing to do with the Lego video. I didn't swear or libel the boy.

Guess some people can't take criticism.
