STUDENTS expecting A-level results tomorrow are being encouraged not to give up on going to university if they do not get the grades they expect.

Representatives from Essex University will be on hand to help students through the Ucas clearing system.

Clearing helps students find university vacancies if they have not already secured a place in higher university’s education.

The university’s Wivenhoe campus expects to have a number of places, which will be published at essex.ac.uk/clearing, from 8am tomorrow.

Joanne Tallentire, the university’s head of admissions, said: “Students can do research so they are prepared, just in case they don’t get the grades they need.

“There is always a lot of pressure surrounding A-level results day, but they should not rush into any decisions and think carefully about what their options are.”

The university’s clearing hotline is 01206 873666. There will also be an open day for clearing students on Saturday, between 11am and 3pm.

Social media representatives from university admissions body Ucas will also be on hand from 6am tomorrow and on the clearing help line, 0871 4680468, from 7am until 7pm.
