Go ahead for radiotherapy centre
3:03pm Friday 10th August 2012 in News By Wendy Brading
WORK is set to start on a £25 million radiotherapy centre in Colchester.
Colchester Council has given planning permission for the new centre which is the biggest development at Colchester General Hospital since
it opened 28 years ago.
Work on the state-of-the-art radiotherapy centre will begin this month and is scheduled to be completed before the end of next year.
The first patients will be treated in early 2014.
The new development will replace the current radiotherapy centre at Essex County Hospital, which has three ageing linear accelerators – linacs - the machines used to give radiotherapy to cancer
patients.
The new centre, which will be located between the main hospital building and Gainsborough Wing, will be built with five bunkers.
