A MAN who fell off his motorbike after hitting a crater in one of Colchester’s most potholed roads has urged County Hall to take action.

Zak Henville, of Mario Way, Colchester, described Berechurch Road as one big pothole.

He only suffered minor injuries, but warned their could be a more serious accident if Essex County Council does not repair it .

He said: “For people who live here it is the only road into town, so we have no choice but to use it, but we’re taking our life in our hands.

“Time is running out with the amount of times I have had to take evasive action to avoid a big injury.”

Dave Harris, borough councillor for Berechurch, has been campaigning for the road to be fixed for five years.

He said: “I am frustrated people’s lives are being put in danger every day because this road has not been repaired properly, especially with the two-wheeled fraternity in mind.”

Essex County Council had planned to start £2.5million of repairs on the road in October last year, but work has not begun.

Essex County Council said it is discussing long-term improvements in Berechurch Road with Colchester Council.

A spokesman encouraged residents to report defects on the highways incident line 0845 6037631.

Im glad to hear Zack is ok but something has to be done NOW.. . I drive down here to work and the road is so bad my steering wheel shakes violently and sometimes i feel like i will lose control of my car.
Are we waiting for a fatality to happen ? Then will something be done, a little too late

Been trying to get this Road on the County radar for ages, and the paperwork gets in the way of the Council.
It doesnt get the pot hole filled in, and the risks removed. The other party just wants to make sour jokes about it all. Not funny if its your life, or limb at risk.

Let's face it, all the roads around colchester are a bloody disgrace.
I know of three busy roundabouts that have wacking great potholes that you cant miss because of the other traffic

Where's Sdapeze when we need him? He usually has pithy things to say about people who moan about potholes. And he rides a bike.

I watch where I am going and miss them. I slow down too! But I agree with Councillor Dave, this is a disgrace. It is Chelmsford again, putting us last. Colchester should run its own affairs - not being dealt with disdain, at arms length, by that lot in the city.

Have you tried www.fixmystreet.com? I've never had to use it myself but from reports I've heard they seem to be pretty effective at getting potholes and the like repaired

Road Tax is not to pay for the roads; it's to pay for the privilege of driving a car on the roads. Never confuse the two.

You need to go to the ECC wesbite to report this:

http://www.essex.gov
.uk/Travel-Highways/
Report-a-highway-pro
blem/Pages/Default.a
spx

or telephone 0845 603 7631. Emphasise that accidents are happening to make this a priority matter. This is not dealt with by Chelmsford but by the ECC Highways office in Colchester.
