Colchester biker demands action on potholes

A MAN who fell off his motorbike after hitting a crater in one of Colchester’s most potholed roads has urged County Hall to take action.

Zak Henville, of Mario Way, Colchester, described Berechurch Road as one big pothole.

He only suffered minor injuries, but warned their could be a more serious accident if Essex County Council does not repair it .

He said: “For people who live here it is the only road into town, so we have no choice but to use it, but we’re taking our life in our hands.

“Time is running out with the amount of times I have had to take evasive action to avoid a big injury.”

Dave Harris, borough councillor for Berechurch, has been campaigning for the road to be fixed for five years.

He said: “I am frustrated people’s lives are being put in danger every day because this road has not been repaired properly, especially with the two-wheeled fraternity in mind.”

Essex County Council had planned to start £2.5million of repairs on the road in October last year, but work has not begun.

Essex County Council said it is discussing long-term improvements in Berechurch Road with Colchester Council.
