3:20pm Thursday 3rd May 2012 in News
AN OPEN day will mark the opening of a new nature reserve.
Cockaynes Wood, off Alresford Road, Wivenhoe, will be run by the Essex Wildlife Trust and the Cockaynes Wood Trust.
The reserve, on land leased by Brett Aggregates, will open on Saturday May 12.
As well as hourly guided walks, refreshments and bird observation points, crafts such as willow weaving will also be on display.
The 50-acre site is listed in the Doomsday Book, and consists of a number of habitats from heath and meadow to woodland.
Wildlife such as lapwings, redshanks, water voles and barn owls are all in residence at the site.
