Fireworks back on table for Wivenhoe's jubilee event

WIVENHOE could be set for a sparkling diamond jubilee after a lottery grant lit up the way for fireworks.

The organising committee for the town’s jubilee celebrations has been given £2,400 by the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All scheme.

The cash boost means a firework display as a grand finale to a week of celebrations could be back on the table, after initial funding estimates found it would be too expensive to run.

The group is looking to spend around £1,500 on fireworks, with the rest of the grant going on the label for the Lovely Jub ilee commemorative ale, and paying back a loan to the committee from Wivenhoe Town Council.

how is it that all councils and so on ban patriotic bunting on the grounds of "sfaety" but fireworks are ok even when bought by everyday people and not organisations?
