A GP who botched circumcision operations on children in Clacton can return to work after a review hearing.

Five children were hospitalised in one week during August 2006 after Dr Aziz Chaudry botched the £150 procedures at his Old Road surgery.

Dr Chaudry was banned from carrying out surgical procedures and made subject to other conditions by the General Medical Council in August 2010 after he was found guilty of misconduct.

He admitted various aspects of his note keeping were below the expected standard.

But following a review hearing the GMC ruled he could return to work without any restrictions.

Panel chair Dr Ian Neale said: “The panel acknowledges the complaints arose within a discrete part of your overall practice.

“There have been no complaints about the rest of your work and testimonials from patients, colleagues and members of your local community attest to your high qualities as a doctor.

“The panel is satisfied the conditions upon your registration has sent a signal to members of the medical profession that care should be taken to maintain a high standard of conduct.

“Your compliance with the conditions will have reassured patients that you can be trusted.”
