WAR veterans are planning an Escape to Victory to mark the Royal British Legion’s 90th anniversary.

The Colchester branch of the organisation has hired out the Weston Homes stadium to stage a football match on the theme of the famous film.

Escape to Victory, which was made in 1981 and starred Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone, was about Allied prisoners of war who was interned in a German prison camp during the Second World War.

It also featured footballing heroes Bobby Moore and Pele as well as a number of Ipswich Town plans including John Wark and Russell Osman.

Terry Sutton, president of the Colchester branch of the Royal British Legion said he had contacted Wark, Osman and former Town star Kevin Beattie asking them to take part in the match.

The match at the Us stadium is on June 5. Anyone wanting more information or to take part should contact Mr Sutton on 01206 562258.
