COLCESTRIANS have shown their charitable side after raising more than £46,000 for the Royal British Legion.
Poppy collections in the town continued to bring out the best in residents despite less collections because of poor weather and so many troop being out in Afghanistan from Colchester Garrison.
Paul Thurston, the poppy appeal organiser in the town, said: “Thank you to all the people in Colchester.
“All of the money goes towards the welfare of the members and their families.
“In these difficult times they still managed to help raise such a major sum.”
Next year is the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.
