ONE of Britain's greatest yachtsmen Reg White has died.
Mr White, who was born and bred in Brightlingsea, was a pioneering yachtsman who reached the pinnacle of his career when he won the Olympic gold medal at the 1976 games in Montreal.
His life was devoted to sailing - a passion he shared with his family.
Mr White, who was 74 and lived in Seaview Avenue, Brightlingsea, died just moments after racing in the Thursday pursuit race in Brightlingsea with his long-time crew Stephen Olle and his grandson Fred, 19.
