A man has been given an indeterminate prison sentence today for the attempted murder of another man in Colchester.

Adam Richer, 24, was stabbed several times in a flat on Iceni Way in Colchester at 6.30am on January.

Mr Richer, who lives in the town, was taken to Colchester General Hospital and was treated for his injuries before later being discharged.

Justin Faircloth knew that police were looking for him and was arrested by traffic officers two days later before subsequently being charged with one count of attempted murder.

The 28-year-old unemployed man, of Smallwood Road, Colchester, stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on April 21 and was found guilty on May 5.

He was remanded in court custody prior to his sentencing today at the same court.

Faircloth was given an indeterminate sentence for the public’s protection and also placed on life licence and must service a minimum of six years before he can apply for parole.

Investigating Officer, Det Con Tim Harris, said: “We are satisfied with the result which reflects our attitude of positive action to domestic violence and knife crime.

"This was an unprovoked attack where the victim had no chance to defend himself.

"If it wasn't for the quick action of the emergency services, the man may have died from his injuries.

"Rather than accept responsibly for his actions, Justin Faircloth chose a last-minute option of trying to blame his estranged wife for the stabbing.

"His actions were cowardly and the jury had the good grace to see through it.

"We hope he has ample time to reflect upon what he brought upon himself and takes the opportunity to move away from his habitual use of violence towards others.”
