Southend United's second string romped home to a 3-0 victory over their West Ham counterparts at the Premier League team's Chadwell training ground.

Teenage striker Yemi Abiodun, plus defenders Tom McDonald and Chris Perkins were on target for the Shrimpers as a young Blues line-up eased through this behind-closed-doors practice match on Monday.

The Hammers' team included a host of players from their side which won the FA Youth Cup last season and former Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest defender Gary Charles.

Southend's ecstatic reserve team coach Mick Gooding beamed: "The lads performed very well against West Ham and got the reward they fully deserved."

Young forward Adam Morrish caught the eye in the Blues' team with a competent display upfront, which marked his return from a long spell out through injury.

Southend (5-3-2): Spittle, McSweeney, Jones, McDonald, Perkins, Johnson, Vassells, Livett, Clarke, Yemi, Morrish.
