Two humanitarian aid workers are to receive a cash boost to replace the van they use on their mercy missions.

George and Marion Mills, who run the charity British Aid for Deprived Children, have been providing aid to war-torn countries for around ten years.

Now the van the Essex couple use to deliver vital supplies to stricken areas, which have included Romania, Chernobyl, Croatia and Kosovo, needs replacing.

Dwin and Alec Hendry, who live near Danbury, are organising quiz nights across the county to help the cause.

Using the support of the Women's Institute they will hold 44 across Essex.

Mrs Hendry said: "We will be holding events until around May every Friday and Saturday. It will certainly keep us busy.

"George and Marion do such a worthwhile thing and bring happiness to so many children."

To find out more about events in your area contact Mrs Hendry on 01245 400781.

Gosfield WI will be holding a quiz night to raise cash for the cause on September 18 in the Maurice Rowson Hall at 7pm. Admission is £3 per person including refreshments. There will be a licensed bar and raffle.
