Clearview players enjoyed themselves at last week's Westcliff Junior Open Tennis Tournament, and Sam Burridge was the major achiever as she took two titles in the event.

She won the under 14 girls singles, courtesy of a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Jade Blackman of Thorpe Bay.

Sam then teamed up with Connaught's Lucy Freeman to win the under 14 girls doubles.

They beat Denise Suleman of Cranbrook Castle and Gemma Chittocks of Southend 6-3, 6-1 in the final.

Jack Stammers, 17, won the boy's under 18 title, as, after a closely fought contest, he defeated Michael Ho from Hertfordshire 7-5, 6-2.

Gidea Park's Trevor Long made the final of section 2 of the boys under 16 singles.

He fell to Hockley's Ben Oaks 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

Trevor was also runner-up in the boys under 14's doubles.

Playing alongside clubmate Mark Weatherup, the pair lost to Cameron Wiggins and Liam Watts (both from Hockley) 6-3, 6-3.

Clearview men's second team held Harlow to a 3-3 draw in the Slazenger Essex Singles League at the weekend, but lost overall on a countback of sets.

Wins for Paul Ivimy and John Cook cancelled out defeats for Sean McPhee and Jason Fleming.

John Carver, who was making his debut in the competition, teamed up with McPhee to win at doubles.

The Essex Closed Junior Tennis Championships are taking place this week, and reach a climax at the weekend.

The event is taking place at Thorpe Bay Tennis Club, and attracts the leading junior players from around the county.

The finals, weather permitting, will take place all day Saturday.

The Essex under 7 short tennis championships, will be held on Sunday, September 26 at the Hornchurch Sports Centre.

Sponsored by Evian and Slazenger, the event is open to all players born in 1992 or later.
