Controversial plans for a residential care home for adults with physical and learning difficulties look set to be turned down.

More than 40 neighbours protested against the proposal to extend and change the use of the bungalow in Thorpe Road, Kirby, into a home for six adults.

Tendring Council planners are urging councillors to block the plan because it would be out of keeping in a residential area .

The extension would increase the bungalow floorspace by 50 per cent taking it over the size restriction outlined in the Local Plan governing development.

Because of the size and purpose officers felt the scheme would be "detrimental to the character and amenity of the adjoining residences".

Town councillors, who unanimously opposed the scheme, also felt it could result in possible noise and nuisance.

But applicant Mike Volf, who runs the Long Furrows Residential Care Home in Long Road, Mistley, denied the claims and gave assurances none of the patients would be suffering from a condition that could lead to any harm to anyone.

The plan goes before Tendring councillors meeting on Tuesday.
