In the end, City made light work of overcoming the Jewson League Premier Division side to move into the next round after what City manager Gary Bellamy described as a fine second half performance.

"I thought they would have proved to be a stronger side but on the day we did what was expected and nobody can complain about us not scoring goals with four in the space of 17 minutes," he said afterwards.

"We now need to go to Kingsbury in the next round with the same prepared approach, play to our strengths and dictate the game but not ease up if we score first which is what we did here," he added.

City made most of the early running and twice they went close with John Girling firing over and Tesfaye Bramble seeing his effort pushed away but they deservedly took the lead in the 17th minute.

It was created by Bramble who swung the ball over and Mark Greatorex managed to get the final touch past goalkeeper Dean Garnham, helped a little by a defender en route.

This should have signalled a goal surge by City and although Barry Lakin's clever free-kick clipped the home bar they failed to take the initiative.

All City needed was a goal but they allowed the home side to come back into the game and only a timely interception by Shane Wardley prevented an equaliser.

At half time Bellamy was forced to replace the struggling Bramble with young newcomer Ben Fuller who immediately tried to make his mark with some intelligent football.

He almost scored when Ollie Berquez slipped in from the left to create a chance but his effort was blocked and then Brian Sutton hit the rebound straight into a posse of players.

Just past the hour Woodbridge equalised when the City rearguard was caught napping, allowing Dearsley space to send in a high curling shot that was out of the reach of City goalkeeper Paul Catley.

This goal at last stung City in a more positive frame of mind and within two minutes they were back in the lead when Fuller headed home a Greatorex cross for his first goal for the club.

In the 67th minute Wardley played a one-two with Berquez and the impressive defender was clean through before being brought down.

Berquez netted from the penalty spot and in the 78th minute Fuller scored again and eight minutes from time Berquez scored the best goal of the game with a fine shot.
