A father and son face a retrial after a jury failed to come to a verdict over an alleged crowbar attack.

Tony Haslett and his son Anthony allegedly attacked two men in Dovercourt after a case of mistaken identity.

Tony, 41, and Anthony, 19, both of Appleton Road, Loughton, denied wounding Richard Ricketts, then 17, of Harcourt Avenue, Dovercourt, intending to cause him grievous bodily harm and assaulting Andrew Barker, 17, causing actual bodily harm at about 3am on April 12 last year in the town's Main Road.

The Haslett family had been holidaying in their caravan at the Haven Caravan Site in Low Road, Dovercourt, the court heard.

It was alleged the two Dovercourt teenagers were attacked after being mistaken as assailants in an earlier nightclub fracas at Reflections in Lower Marine Parade.

Mr Ricketts suffered two disfiguring scars on his face, a fractured jaw and a perforated eardrum, the court was told.

The jury was discharged at Snaresbrook Crown Court after nine hours eight minutes of deliberations failed to produce a verdict.

Judge Timothy King ordered a retrial and released both defendants on conditional bail until September 2, when a new trial date will be fixed.
