A pig had to be put down and others rescued after a blaze at a Little Clacton barn.
Five fire engines and crews from four stations battled the blaze at Cooks Green Farm, Little Clacton, at the barn which housed 20 pigs.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire with hose reels after they were alerted at 10.20am on Friday.
Farm owner David Wilkin, 45, said they noticed smoke coming from the roof and at first tried to put it out with buckets of water and a hose.
He said: "My father was working at one end of the farm and me at the other and we saw the smoke. The barn was well alight within ten minutes and we knew at that stage we were not getting anywhere so we dialled 999."
