Fears that a popular community hall could close have been quelled by councillors at a "rowdy" meeting.
Users of the Frypa Hall, in The Fryth, Fryerns, Basildon, are concerned they may be forced to move out to make way for an elderly people's day centre.
Basildon Council has unveiled plans to close the George Hurd Centre, in Fauners, but has yet to choose a site for a replacement centre.
Frypa Hall users, including the Little Rascals Preschool, are concerned that should the day centre move there, they would be forced to either find new premises or close.
Now, they have been told that extra rooms may be added to the hall to provide space for the groups if the George Hurd Centre moves there.
Conservative councillors met with more than 60 local residents at the Adventure Playground for Children with Special Needs, also in The Fryth, to listen to their concerns.
Councillors have agreed to meet again with the hall users after next month's local government elections.
