A major crash was avoided on the A12 thanks to quick-thinking drivers.
An Essex Ambulance Service spokesman said a 28-year-old man, whose car came off the A12 and crashed through the central reservation, was lucky to be suffering from just back pain.
The ambulance service was called to the A12 at Marks Tey, at the junction with the A120, close to the footbridge, at 11.25am on Friday.
The air ambulance, which was already in the area, was first on the scene and landed on the road after police closed it off.
Senior operations manager Alan Whitehead said: "The man was driving along the London-bound track when the car left the road to the off-side, it went through the crash barrier ending up on the Ipswich track in the fast lane."
