Charlie Jeffs, 12, was one of only six people to pass black belt exams in the national Shindo-Ryu karate exams.
Basildon boy Charlie, who assists Stephen Grayston (10th Dan Master) in teaching both children and adults at his various classes around Essex, was promoted to Second Dan by the board of examiners along with one other student.
Four other pupils were awarded their First Dan black belts.
Charlie was "thrilled to bits and as high as a kite, if not more than a little cream crackered" after the gruelling two-hour workout and fitness test which followed the half hour written theory test. Basildon trio, Dave Biscoe and his daughter Danielle, plus 12- year-old Cassie Woon, were awarded their 1st Dan black belts at the examinations.
